Link to AviStack Processing Software Added

I’ve just added a link in the Computing Section to a new freeware stacking program called AviStack.  It was reviewed in the current issue of Sky & Telescope, page 72 (February, 2010) as an excellent tool for stacking lunar images.

Please see the link in the right margin under “Image Processing” or click HERE.

Mars Section Updated

A new image was posted on the “Mars Observing Alerts and Recent Observations” page, titled “Ariborne Dust and Ice in Mars’ Atmosphere” on 12/27/09, using an image taken by Brian Combs from Buena Vista, GA on 12/22/09.

Also, a new link was added to the Mars section page called “Mars Observer’s Cafe“.  This is a site maintained by Jeff Beish, and the new link replaces one of Jeff’s older links which is no longer valid.

A new ALPOD image has been posted.  This is another excellent Mars image by Paul Maxson, taken December 15th, 2009 at 0944 UT.  Here’s the image, also posted on the main page of the ALPO website:

ALPO Gallery with Member Section

Of course the Arkansas Sky Observatory Image Archive is still active and is a tremendous resource to ALPO, but to augment the archive, a gallery system was installed on the ALPO web server earlier this year.   The gallery can be used as a section website presentation tool for images and sketches by section coordinators.  The system allows image searches through all albums, automatically creates thumbnail images as links to larger versions and has an easy to use image upload interface.  The gallery presents images in hierarchical albums, each containing pages of thumbnails, and the albums or individual images can be directly linked on section websites, or in posts to section groups or in emails.

We’ve also created a “Member Section”, that can be used by any ALPO member for uploading their own planetary imaging or sketching efforts if a “gallery” format is desirable.

Please contact Larry Owens if you are an ALPO member or section coordinator with a desire to use this gallery system.

Here’s a link to the gallery.

The Computing Section has a New Look and Feel

Today, the ALPO Computing Section was upgraded as part of a plan to improve the ALPO website.

The new Computing Section is managed by a web-based publishing system that will enable quicker site updates and has many features to make site navigation easier.

To explore the site, click on the “ALPO Computing Section” .title above, or use This Link.

The Mars Section also uses the new publishing system to post images and section alerts.  Check it out Here.
