A Short Summary of Carrington Rotation 2184

Carrington Rotation 2184 covered the time period from 2016-11-16 1739 UT – 2016-12-14 0115 UT.
314 Reports and images were submitted for our archive and can be viewed in ALPO’s Solar Archive for CR2184:
http://www.alpo-astronomy.org/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=93274
During the rotation, 9 Active Regions could be observed, AR2609 through AR2617. The largest region, AR2612, reached its maximum area of only 170 millionths on November 28th. The total Active Region Area for the Solar hemisphere maxed out for the rotation at 260 millionths on November 30st and December 2nd . The Wolf number reached its maximum of 75 in between those two days on December 1st, when three regions were visible on the hemisphere. Carrington Rotation 2184 showed again a quiet time for the Sun as it did have three days with a total active region area and a Wolf number of 0 on November 22, and 23rd as well as December 11th. This brought the total spotless days since Solar maximum to 28.

For this Rotation we would like to feature again images of the Solar drawings submitted by three of our observers, Monte Leventhal, Joe Gianninoto, and Tony Broxton. Thanks to them as well as all other contributors for another great rotation. Please take a look at their images by clicking on the above link leading to our archive.

ALPOSS – A report on CR2178 and CR2179

ALPOSS Coordinator and Scientific Advisor Richard Hill continues his analysis of the solar activity in his detailed reports of the Carrington Rotations. This time he covers the Carrington Rotations: CR2178 and CR2179, or June 6th through July 30th, 2016. The reports are based on 886 reports and image submissions of numerous contributors to the Solar Observations Archive. The report was published in the 2017 Winter issue of the ALPO Journal, the Strolling Astronomer, and can now also be accessed as a stand alone document on ALPOSS Solar Observations & Reports page, or downloading it by “right”clicking on the picture below.
